[three_fifth] [dropcap color=”rosy”]M[/dropcap]y wonderful fiance decided that we should take a beautiful holiday to Paris. Now to be honest, something in the back of my mind thought ‘He’s going to propose!’, but in the months leading to the trip he tried to manage my expectations by telling me that ‘he is so broke’ and that ‘marriage is not really a priority at the moment’. So all of my hopes were washed away and I just started to look forward to the amazing holiday that we were going to take together.

Months went by and eventually our date of departure was upon us, I had visions of sidewalk fromagerie‘s with beautiful window displays of baguettes and cheeses, chic people that wear feather laiden hats and drink wine out of ridiculously small glasses and cobble stoned streets. It was everything I imagined it would be. The evening that we arrived we decided to drop our bags off and go straight to the Eiffel Tower, we didn’t care about the 22 hour transit and screaming baby that garnished our flights, we were in Paris! And after queuing for about an hour we made our way up the beautiful steel structure. As we got to the top, we were just in time to see a man drop to one knee and propose to his girlfriend- I must say that a tinge of hope cropped up inside of me then, but when the evening was over I convinced myself that it was not going to happen on this trip.

The next day was filled with modern art, a genre that is close to my heart as my thesis was based on relationship between modern art and poetry. We mulled over painting after painting, sculpture after sculpture and that evening having been inspired, decided to have a bottle of wine at the restaurant that Picasso, van Gogh and Hemingway used to frequent.  Thereafter we took a walk to the river Sciene and under a beatuful lamp, on the cobbles, he got down on one knee and asked me to be his forever. I was in utter disbelief and just so emphatically happy. As you can imagine, the rest of our holiday was steeped in romance and pure bliss.
