Castle Wedding Venues

Castle Wedding Venues

The old adage that every girl wants to be a princess to be swept off her feet by her prince on her wedding day and live happily ever after is probably the reason why  castle wedding venues are so popular. Most girls have dreamed of a romantic wedding and a castle has featured in many of these dreams.

Think large halls, water features, moats, drawbridges and turrets! Make sure you have a wedding feast of food! Look for large fireplaces in winter to keep the chill out. Use fairy lights to add a sense of romance. Round tables and the knights of Camelotte – this is where round tables were first used according to the legends and you can follow this tradition. Rich jewel colours will complement the castle style, so for your colour scheme try purples, rich reds or deep pinks with splashes of gold.

For your dress, go big as you wish. A romantic ball gown will truly make you feel like a princess on your wedding day! Tulle and lace will work very well with this theme, and at the moment these are very fashionable.

Here are the castle wedding venues we feature. Any of these will truly make you feel like a princess.

Chartwell Castle

Chartwell Castle is a charming 17th Century style enchanted castle situated on the banks of the Klein Jukskei River on the outskirts of Johannesburg. They guarantee to make you feel like a true princess on your special day. As well as their gorgeous gardens, they also have the largest maze in the Southern hemisphere so there are plenty of gorgeous photograph opportunities. They have a lovely new beamed functions venue that they have painted white and is a blank canvas ready for your special wedding decor.  A great feature of Chartwell is that if you wish to, you can bring your own caterers, but they can do all your catering for you if this is what you prefer.

They have a guest house that sleeps 13 and is perfect for the bride and her party to use on the wedding day.

Castle Marina

Have your fairytale wedding at Castle Marina. Situated on the vast Vaal Dam, it was built by a romantic Englishman who fell in love with the peace and quiet of the Vaal Dam.

Castle Marina has a large reception hall complete with a balcony which gives an authentic feel.  A spiral staircase leads up to a rooftop area with magnificent views over the Vaal Dam.  You can bring your own caterers and decor, or they can recommend service providers for you. This way you are able to keep your costs down. Large fireplaces keep you warm in winter and in summer you can open up the doors and let the breezes in.

Use the Juliet Suite for your pre-wedding preparation. This also doubles as the honeymoon suite if you choose not to travel after your wedding.

Camelotte Castle

In the countryside outside Hartebeespoort Dam you will find a castle to make your wedding fairytale a reality. This special castle is called Camelotte Castle and is surrounded by a moat which you enter through a wooden drawbridge as was the way in all ancient castles.

Walk the red carpet into the chapel with its cross made of candles and lead glass windows casting jewel-like colours adding to the feeling of romance.  At the reception they promise that as is fitting for all medieval castles, the meal will be a feast.

For your honeymoon night, they offer a dungeon honeymoon suite as part of their wedding package. For the bride looking for a bargain, try their winter specials where they have a special price for the months of June and July. Their gardens and water features offer many special photograph opportunities. What better way to show off your fairy tale princess gown wedding dress than in a romantic castle?
