Neusa and Paul
Neusa and Paul[three_fifth] [dropcap color=”rosy”]I[/dropcap] woke up on Saturday, 31st March 2012 thinking that it was going to be a lovely day but little did I know that it was the day that Paul (my fiance) was going to propose to me!
Paul told me during the week that he had a surprise for me on that day. I didn’t think much of it as he always has something up his sleeve and loves to spoil me with surprises!
It was about 2pm when we left my house to go to Rand Airport in Germiston. When we got there we sat down for a lovely lunch, with lovely music in the background. I kind of figured that we were going to fly as he suggested that I take motion sickness tablets. I was so excited thinking that this was the surprise that he had set out for me.
A few minutes later, Jonathan, his pilot friend came to meet us at our lunch table. Aha! I thought I had everything planned out in my head. My surprise was going to be a plane flight and Jonathan was going to fly us. Well, I was partially right!
Before we lifted off, we saw a beautiful sunset and as we lifted off we saw it again. The weather was perfect and the sky was so clear.
I was so mesmerised by all this beauty that I was not thinking of anything else but just to take photos of this beautiful scenery around me.
We flew over Hartebeespoort Dam, Sandton and Joburg City. As it became darker the lights shone brightly and beautifully. Wow! We truly live in an amazing city!
After flying around Joburg City for a while, Jonathan asked if I would like to fly over the school that I work at. I said, “Yes, of course!”
As a Geography teacher – at that stage – I would love to see an aerial view of what Kenton Primary School looked like.
As we flew over the field of my school – I was told to look carefully at the school field at a 9 o’clock direction (pilot language). As I looked down I saw a HUGE canvas sign with LED lights saying: “Neusa, voce quer casar comigo?” meaning “Neusa, will you marry me” in Portuguese (as I am Portuguese). This sign was massive and each letter shone brightly and beautifully in the darkness of the field. I turned to look at Paul and there he was on one knee asking me to marry him holding my stunning ring! He slipped the ring on my finger and I said, “YES!”
Wow! It was a truly special moment. One that I will never forget!
Before we landed, Paul blindfolded me. I was very nervous but yet excited, wondering what else he had up his sleeve.
As we landed, he removed the blindfold and I opened my eyes. There was a red carpet, where I had to walk on from the plane to the restaurant area…. and there were our family and some of our closest friends! Tears of joy rolled down my cheeks and all I could do was hug Paul so tightly. Beautiful yellow roses were handed over to me and we ended the night celebrating together with champagne and lovely food! What a stunning and romantic proposal – don’t you think? I thought it only happened in the movies……………..Boy, was I wrong!
Paul really went through a lot of effort to get this day organised – it took months to get it all right! Thank you to all the friends and family that were involved and who helped making this day an unforgettable one!
Our wedding date is on 22 September 2013.
