Shannon and Bryan
We met 8 years ago and it was love at first sight! The weekend of our engagement, we took a mini break to Agulhas National Park where we stayed in the log cabins overlooking the ocean about 300 metres away and fynbos and the most Southern Tip of Africa (where the 2 oceans meet) a few kilometers away… It was the perfect weekend! As it was my birthday the following week I thought it was a birthday treat!
On the Saturday morning, Bryan woke up at about 5am wanting to go watch the sunrise… With me wanting to sleep in that morning I wasn’t prepared to go out that early… By 6.45am, Bryan eventually got me out of bed and we headed down to the most Southern Tip to ‘watch the sunrise’. I must admit, it was a beautiful sunrise. On one end it was cloudy and the sun was making its way through the clouds, on the other side it was the perfect summer’s day. After a slow stroll down to the cairn, taking some photos at The Tip, Bryan asked if I’d like to do a Geocache. Geocaching is something we share as a couple and love the adventure of it all. It is a treasure hunt enjoyed by people around the world and takes you to places you wouldn’t necessarily think of going to. It is based on GPS co-ordinates, where you use your GPS device, hints and clues from the person who has hidden this ‘treasure’ as well as previous Geocacher’s to find this cache. http://www.geocaching.com/guide/
So, Bryan read out the ‘clue’ off his phone (as he always does) and I listened for the clues and hints (as I always do). “It’s very easy. On the ocean side of the cairn, under a pile of rocks, in a small black box.” I was told. Off I went to look for the cache and found it easily, thinking this is the easiest Geocache ever! I opened this small black box and saw my beautiful sparkling ring and at the same time thinking – where is the log book to log our find and who could hide such an expensive geocache… along with a whole bunch of are you serious?! And really?! In that split second tears started streaming down my face and I turned around to find Bryan down on one knee, with a huge smile on his face, ready to say a few words. It was words from the heart, nothing scripted. The best way he could have proposed to me! He described how this is where the 2 oceans meet, as it is our 2 lives coming together and that he would literally go to the end of the world for me and eventually asked if we could spend the rest of our lives together! Obviously the words “YES! YES! YES!” followed! J
To top it all off, he was recording the entire proposal on camera! We are getting married on 22 March 2014 and can’t wait! 🙂
