The Cairn of Old Kilgobbin Wedding
The Cairn of Old Kilgobbin is a gorgeous farm wedding venue in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands. Owner Carlene has discovered a passion for weddings after she converted the barn on her picturesque working farm to couples to tie the knot in 2010. And what beautiful weddings she has hosted! While there is no question there are plenty of amazing wedding venues in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands, there is something really special about The Cairn of Old Kilgobbin which makes it stand out from the crowd.
If you are looking for an intimate, relaxed wedding in a beautifully kept old farmyard, with delicious, satisfying local food cooked with passion and served with care, on old antique plates or enamelware, and all tinged with warm afternoon Dargle sunlight, then the Cairn is exactly what you are looking for. The wedding ceremony can be held outside in the beautiful farm setting or at the nearby Crabapple Chapel. The lovingly renovated barn creates the perfect location for your wedding reception. Carl explains –
Our tables are long rectangles of wood and wrought iron, seldom needing more than a dusting of lace or a precious antique vase to add to the occasion, our comfortable chairs are of wood slates and wrought iron ( tried and tested by burly farmers and given the stamp of approval). Our crockery is an assortment of family heirlooms, flea market vintage sales and many hours of searching auction websites, from Royal Albert to Hugenot ceramics and green and cream enamelware from the local Indian trading store. Old oregan and yellowwood dressers serve as backdrops as well as housing all the linens, antique vases and collectibles that are yours to choose from for your decor.
Style of The Cairn of Old Kilgobbin
Relaxed, farm style weddings
The Cairn can comfortably seat 110 people, can cope with another ten, but more than 120 becomes a tight squeeze reminiscent of last year’s jeans, not what one wants to spend the afternoon in!
The Cairn understand that food is a very important factor to any wedding and they work with two local chefs to create delicious, tailor made menus. Let Margie Harel from the Aubergine Cookery Studio, and Cathy de Costa from Cookalooks Cookery School create the perfect menu for your wedding suited perfectly to your budget.
There is gorgeous accommodation on the farm that can sleep up to 14 guests. When hiring the Cairn for a wedding, the accommodation in the two cottages and in the barn are part of the package.
