Tracey and Stephen
Tracey and Stephen[three_fifth] [dropcap color=”rosy”]I[/dropcap]n December 2012: my boyfriend Stephen gave me a 90 minute Swedish Massage voucher because he said I was stressed and I needed it.
In February 2013: We had plans of going to Cape Town from Johannesburg for a friends wedding. My boyfriend phoned and booked for my massage for the Tuesday before we left so I could be relaxed. I didn’t feel stressed but would never say no to a 90 minute massage On arrival at the Renaissance spa I was told that all my treatments had been upgraded and I was getting a mani, pedi and a facial as well as my 90 min massage. It was pure bliss. I told the lady how surprised I was because I’ve never won anything. I even smsed my boyfriend “I won, I won, I won” and that I would be at the spa for a lot longer than 90 minutes. (In hindsight he knows me so well that he knows my nails are seldom done but he knew I would’ve wanted them to look beautiful especially for all the pics of my left hand.)
The next day (Wednesday) we left for Cape Town. Wednesday and Thursday we met up with friends and even stayed with a good friend of mine. All he had told me about Friday was that we were checking into the BnB closer to the wedding venue and that he wanted to try out this restaurant in town. So Friday we pack up and said good bye to my friends. We went for a stunning lunch in Hout bay at Mariners Wharf. We both over indulged in sea-food my favourite.
He then tells me we can’t check in at the BnB yet (because the people that checked out left a mess) so he suggested we go for sun-downers in Hout bay. He starts googling places to go and asked me “do you like the view from here?” etc. I said yes it was beautiful so he phoned the manager of the place and asked if he could bring his girlfriend for a cocktail. After confirmation. we drove into the nature reserve of Chapman’s peak to a beautiful place called Tintswalo Atlantic. On seeing the “no entry unless via prior arrangement” sign on their gate, I even joked with Stephen and said “good thing you phoned”. We parked our car with all the luggage in it. The manager came to fetch us by golf cart. We get to the entrance and are greeted by welcome champagne. I even told Steve we should pay for it as we weren’t guests and I was sure the champagne was for guests only. We had a lovely cocktail at the pool deck. I suggested we leave so that we weren’t late for dinner. Stephen suggested we take a walk on the beach.
We walked on the beach I was taking photo’s because everything is so beautiful. He stopped on a rock. (Important for me because its better to build foundation on a rock instead of sand as it says in the Bible ) He looks at me and says “Trace there is something I have to ask you but first there is a lot I have to say.” He got down on one knee and while holding my hand and tears streaming down both my faces he said the most amazing speech. I’m sure he remembers all of it as it was so well rehearsed. My favourite parts was when he said that I’m the most amazing person and I always put others first, so much so that I don’t even realise I do it. He said a few lines in perfect portuguese. (Which is so special to me as he isn’t Portuguese but I am). Then he said that he will love me for the rest of this life and whatever may follow it. Then he said Will you marry me?
I said yes, yes of course. and then he took out the ring. It was so beautiful and so me and just like us a PERFECT FIT. We both stayed on the rocks a while, I took photos (I LOVE PHOTO’S). Then we started walking back to the car. As we walking back Steve turns around and opens one of the doors at this place. All our luggage was inside. All the staff knew and I had no idea. Our room was so beautiful I even took a photo of the toilet. They had fresh roses in there for us as well as champagne. Steve opened the bubbly while I was taking pics of how beautiful everything was and then he says to me.
“A photographer will be here in twenty mins to do a photo shoot for us.”
He really thought of everything. He even gave me enough time to put make up on. =) After the photo shoot with the very talented Brenda we had another glass of champagne while watching the sunset and then we started the phone calls to ecstatic family and friends. He proposed on the 8th of February because 8 is my favourite number and the photo shoot was the cherry on top as you can tell I love photos. He thought of everything and totally had me by surprise until he got down on one knee.
I could not think of anything that would’ve made my day more perfect. Turns out he had asked for my Dad’s permission a month before. I am engaged to a man above men. *Happy Dance*
