Give your wedding guests a favour to remember by donating to a charity in their name. This is a gift that won’t ever be forgotten by the people you are helping. A married life can be daunting and challenging journey that would test your love for each other as husband and wife. Settling down, finding a new house, looking for secured loans, getting used to sharing stuff with someone else, etc. are just some of the things you need to face right after your wedding day. With all these in mind, wouldn't you want your very first deed as a married couple something that would strengthen your resolve? Dipping your newly-wed hands into charity would do exactly that.

SPCA

Getting married is such a joyful time, which is why many couples ensure that each guest receives a “favour” or small gift as a token of appreciation for attending and expressing good wishes. They also serve as constant reminders of the happy day.

May we suggest that there may be animal lovers amongst you and your guests and that you could make a meaningful gesture that will last a lifetime – for the animals!

Why not donate a set amount per guest to the SPCA? A card at each place setting could indicate that this has been done in the names of the guests and that you feel sure they will appreciate this action to help animals in their name.

There are over 90 individual SPCAs in South Africa plus the National Council of SPCAs which has the nationally operational units working to protect Wildlife, Farm Animals, Equine, Animals in Exhibition, Sport and Recreation plus the Research Ethics Unit.

www.nspca.co.za has a list of all the SPCAs with contact and banking details. You may have a preference such as helping animals in your own area or a specific type of animal you wish to assist.

Cotlands

Cotlands is a long-serving South African 'non-profit' agency that continues to meet the ever-changing needs of children impacted by HIV/AIDS in our country.

South Africa has been identified as the country with the greatest number of HIV/AIDS-infected people in the world. Recent reports reveal that more than five million South Africans are currently living with the impact of HIV/AIDS, while some of Cotlands’ programme focus areas (e.g. Cotlands' Hlabisa Home Base Care project) have estimated infection rates of more than 40% of the total population.

Sparrow Schools

What a wonderful opportunity to reach out to other as you celebrate your wedding!  Thank you for considering Sparrow Schools’ 600 children and youth as “special guests” on your big day.  By providing a donation to our work in lieu of gifts to your guests you will help us to ensure ongoing access to affordable quality education and vocational skills training to children and youth who cannot cope in mainstream schools due to barriers to learning.  More than a quarter of our learners are orphans who stay in places of safety or child-headed households.  Due to their learning difficulties and special needs they will not become doctors, lawyers or accountants.  With Sparrow Schools’ specialized interventions they will however be able to gain the valuable skills of numeracy, literacy and a practical trade skill to find a job.  Ensuring that they have the opportunity to make a livelihood and contribute positively to society.
