Some Useful Hints for Hiring a Wedding Photographer
When you decided to take the big step of getting married, the first thing you did was probably to book your venue to secure a date so you could start planning. The next most important decision to make is which wedding photographer to hire. It is a difficult decision to make but there are ways of making this process easier.
The first piece of advice is to hire a professional wedding photographer. Even if a kind friend or a relative offers their services, I would strongly advise you to hire someone independent of you. The main reason for this is that you can tell them exactly what your requirements are without fear of offending or hurting someone you know well. By all means, it is a good idea to have the friend or relative as a backup, so use them in tandem with a professional wedding photographer. You will get two different takes of the same event, and the more photos the better! A good idea is also to provide disposable cameras at each place setting so you will get photos of each group of people that the photographer may not have included.

Word of mouth is an excellent way to choose a wedding photographer. If you friends have had a good experience with their wedding photographer and have found them to be reliable and punctual and able to deliver on promises, the chances are that you will have the same experience. Visit the photographer at his/her studio and ask to see their portfolio. You will soon be able to tell whether their style is in keeping with what you have in mind - whether it is formal or a more candid, photo-journalistic style. Make sure you know and understand what is included in the wedding package and how many hours are included on the day. Reach an agreement on price for extra time should your time run out. Some photographers offer an engagement package included in thr wedding package. This normally would entail a photo shoot with the two of you sometime during the run up to your wedding. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to become better acquainted with the photographer and he with you. The more relaxed you feel with the photographer, the better. It is also a great way to become accostomed to having a camera trained on you without being self-conscious - ensuring great wedding photographs. Find out exactly what you get for your money in terms of number of prints, albums, and most importantly, a time line for delivery. You don't want to wait months and months for your photos. Ask if you can contact some of his clients for testimonials and check on delivery details, punctuality and all the other important points that are worrying you. Find out if he brings plenty of extra memory cards so there is no danger of running out on your big day. Speak to him about a shot list. He should have plenty of input he can give you on this, and you will find it easier to make up your own shot list putting all your ideas together with his. He should also visit your venue where your ceremony is and where the reception is if he is unfamiliar with them. He will be able to see where the best places are from which to take pictures.
