In a series of train journeys lasting from 24 hours to a fortnight, the Pride of Africa links some of Africa's greatest destinations from Cape Town, at the tip of Africa, to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, from scenic splendours as diverse as the game reserves of Mpumalanga to the Victoria Falls, from the desert landscapes in Namibia and the stark beauty of the Karoo to the lush cane fields of KwaZulu-Natal and the magnificent Garden Route along the Cape south coast.
The trains - which may be hauled by steam, diesel or electric locomotives at various stages of the journey - carry a maximum of 72 passengers in 36 superbly appointed suites. Pride of place in the Rovos stable goes to the historic and newly rebuilt Capital Park Station and locomotive yard, which is the heart and the headquarters of this private railway company.

For many visitors to South Africa, there is no finer way to see the country than on the popular 48-hour weekly journeys between Pretoria and Cape Town. This 1600 km journey is a perfect illustration of South Africa as a world in one country. Travel the grasslands of the gold mountain ranges and scenic winelands of the Cape. Journey's end is Cape Town, the Mother City of South Africa, cradled by the imposing bulk of Table Mountain, Devil's Peak and Lion's Head. Highlights of the north and southbound routes include a visit to the historic villages of Matjiesfontein and Kimberley.
George:
This picturesque 550 km 24hr trip runs between Cape Town and George during the summer months and is rated as one of the most beautiful in the world. From the Mother City the train travels around the Elandskloofberg through Wolseley and on towards Worcester. Grapes are grown in vast quantities in this area, and apart from several co-operative wine cellars, ther are a number of brandy distilleries. The train travels through the Bree River Valley to Robertson and the picturesque George and finally on to Knysna. This nature lovers paradise is a mecca for visitors drawn to the town for its natural beauty, abundant wildlife, and numerous sporting and recreational activities.

Relive the romance of a bygone Africa on a nostolgic expedition to one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, the Victoria Falls
Experience a 1600 km journey through a varied and truly African scenery as Rovos Rails's luxurious train meanders northwards from Pretoria to the historic town of Beit Bridge on the Limpopo River and the border between South Africa and Zimbabwe. After border formalities a slow amble takes us through Rutenga and Sombula to the city of Bulawayo. The following day the train descends from Dete through Hwange and Thompson's Junction to our destination. Victoria Falls is one of the most majestic natural splendours of the world and a popular destination for travellers starting out from Cape Town or Pretoria. The journey through South Africa's northern province and across the fabled Limpopo River into Zimbabwe offers the passengers a unique opportunity to experience the scenery so characteristic of this high-lying area.
The Falls and the elegant colonial-style Victoria Falls Hotel constitute an ideal destination. The surrounding area offers travellers many recreational opportunities including cruising and white river rafting on the Zambezi River as well as supurb game viewing and photo safaris

Durban Safari

An unforgettable train journey into the heart of the African bushveld.
This special three day safari between Pretoria and Durban departs during the summer months and includes game drives in two varied and unique game reserves. This train departs in the morning from Rovos Rail's station in Pretoria and slowly meanders eastwards through the grasslands of the Highveld. It then descends the escarpment between Belfast and Waterval Onder, taking the train through what is surely the most spectacular sundowner scenery in South Africa. Awake in Malelane for breakfast as the train travels along the boundary of the world famous Kruger National Park. The safari continues south toward Swaziland for an afternoon game drive in the Mkhaya Game Reserve. Travel overnight to the Hluhluwe Game Reserve in Zululand, sanctuary of the endangered White and Black Rhino. Enjoy an early morning game drive which a large variety of game can be seen. The train departs mid-morning and winds its way through the lush cane fields and rolling hills of KwaZulu Natal, to arrive in Durban by late afternoon where this scenic safari ends.

The journey is characterised by various options and is one of the most famous train journeys in the world.
» An annual 3 400km journey to Swakopmund in Namibia in May. The train takes 6 nights / 7 days to reach Swakopmund with an off-train excursion to Kimberley, a visit to the Fish River Canyon, a city tour and game drive near Windhoek and an overnight stay at a game lodge in Etosha National Park with two game drives.
» An annual African Collage journey between Pretoria and Cape Town in May/June. This trip take the train via Malelane, Hluhluwe, Durban, Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth, Oudtshoorn, George and onto Cape Town with various off train excursions.
