Shibula Lodge

Untamed Magnificence Along With Truly Superb Standards of Warm Hospitality.
Bush Venues – - Shibula Lodge

About Us

Shibula Lodge and Bush Spa, is a five star accredited lodge in the big 5 Welgevonden Private Game Reserve in the Limpopo Province, South Africa. This malaria free rugged wilderness was an area where Paul Kruger, founder of the Kruger National Park, had allocated farmland to argumentative politicians to keep them occupied. Our Lodge offers the discerning visitor Africa in all its untamed magnificence, along with truly superb standards of warm hospitality.

Voted by Getaway Travel Magazine as “one of the top 10 most romantic destinations in South Africa”, by Elle as one of the “Pick of the Best Bush Lodges” and by Sarie as “Elegant in the bush” Shibula is a wonderful sanctuary in the bush.

Your Wedding

Either the Lodge dining area (Indoors) or the deck (outdoors under thatch roof) are likely, and historically, successful wedding ceremony venues depending on the season. After ceremony drinks at the pool deck it is a great highlight for the newly weds to visit the numerous scenic spots on the Reserve for capturing photos.

The reception in the Boma is ushered in with a dance and song routine by our traditional performers. Enjoy Boma dinners which offer traditional South African cuisine such as potjiekos as well as other Gourmet dishes. The conference venue with fully functional bar is used as the dance floor. Alternatively the Lodge lounge dining area also serves as a lovely reception venue if the weather or season does not allow for open air venues.

During March we were fortunate enough to host a wonderful wedding experience for the Hill/ Whitburn wedding party. The wedding ceremony took place on the deck overlooking the beautiful Taaibos spruit meandering past the lodge at the foot the Kransberg. As the I do’s were pronounced a big bull elephant arrived as if on cue to put his stamp of approval on the proceedings.

We then took them out onto the Reserve to a location with a magnificent view, of which there are many in the scenic Welgevonden, to take some memorable wedding pictures and have a celebratory sun downer.

The reception took place in the cosy, Shibula Boma where our traditional dancers entertained the newlyweds, friends and family before the traditional first dance on our dance floor, in the conference venue adjacent to the Boma.

The Wedding was hailed as a huge success by both the guests and staff alike.

Testimonials

“Our appreciation of the exemplary service we received during a recent stay at Shibula Lodge cannot be overstated. A crowd of fifteen of us spent three blissful days there last week, to celebrate our daughter’s wedding. Words cannot describe how special this time was for all of us – from Laurie and Desiree, the most welcoming and helpful hosts, Sean and Thomas the extremely knowledgeable and accommodating rangers, Johannes the very talented chef, who satisfied our hunger with delectable food, David and Frans who took it all in their stride and treated us with the utmost professionalism, and to all the rest who made us feel welcome. The minister, who was unknown to us, but arranged by Laurie to officiate, chose words and verses that truly reflected the relationship of the bride and groom, which made the ceremony special too. The dancers/singers on the wedding night were superb, their voices bringing tears to our eyes and confirming our desire to be part of Africa (all of us on the trip are South African) We have the most memorable photographs, including lions tearing a giraffe apart about three metres from where Sean came across this rare sighting. He is the most knowledgeable and keen young 21 year old we have ever encountered and are convinced that he will be one of the most sought after rangers in years to come. As the happy couple signed the registry, an elephant appeared at the waterhole in front of the Lodge, as if he’d been prompted to bestow his blessings on the bridal couple too! Such special memories will be with all of us forever and it is for this reason that we write to thank you and your staff for this almost surreal experience.  We will be certain to recommend Shibula Lodge to our family, friends and business associates.”
