Strandkombuis
Situated right on the famous Sixteen Mile Beach we have the perfect venue (up-market boma style restaurant) for your dream wedding.  From the beach, a few wooden steps lead up to our beautiful wooden deck, wooden tables and benches. Half of the venue is covered with a permanent roof, the other half is covered by a beige Bedouin tent, whilst a wall at the back protects us from the summer winds.  You can get married on the beach or on the deck.  We can cater for a maximum number of 150 guests  and a minimum of 80.  Please provide us with the exact number two weeks before your wedding. Here are some details about our weddings at Strandkombuis. 1. Menu R220 pp  (Price will increase by 10% at beginning of September 2008, even if you book the venue before then. This increase is subject to the rise in food costs.) Buffet Menu Timeline for an evening wedding     7.00  pm  Starters Hake and yellow tail fish soup Freshly baked bread Butter and homemade jams and pate 8.00 pm. Main course  West Coast mussels in sauce Yellow tail fillets, with rich butter or Barigoule sauce sauce Prawns, fried in butter and fresh garlic Tender fried calamari Pumpkin fritters Warm smoked snoek Salads/Vegetables 9.00  pm.  Dessert Coffee and Tipsy tart/custard  plus  your own wedding cake. We can, unfortunately not deviate from the above menu, but if you want to add an extra dish or two, you are welcome to do so.  We specialise in seafood, but if one or two guests are allergic, we will do a meat dish for them. Timeline for a  morning wedding Starters at 1 pm;  Main at 2 pm and Dessert at 3 pm. 2.  Venue Fee and Extras  2.1  Venue fee:    R10 000.  2.2  Plus R30  per person:          white tablecloths and linen napkins, cutlery and crockery   3. Beverages  3.1     We have a fully licensed bar.  Please note that no wine or sparkling wine or any alcoholic or other drinks will be allowed on the premises.    The couple decides for whose account drinks will be.   Guests will either pay for themselves (cash bar) or the groom or wedding couple can run a tab. The groom may indicate a specific limit and when this is reached, he will be informed.    3.2 Trained barmen:  R400 per barman from 4 pm to midnight.   If their services are required after midnight, R150 per barman per hour or part thereof is payable.  Bar closes at 01:00 am. Last rounds must be ordered at 24:30.  We have fully licensed bar. No beverages or drinks will be allowed on the premises. 4.   Service Fee    A service fee of 8% will be charged on the food and beverages bill. 5.   Music The disc jockey or band of your choice can make use of our two electrical power points.  The volume will have to be kept down to a reasonable level.   The music must stop at 1 a.m. 6. Preacher  We can recommend Rob Botsis - 021 913 2285 (often seen at Strandkombuis doing the wedding sermon).  7.  Decorating the Venue Because of the environment and awesome setting of Strandkombuis, only a few decorations are necessary.  Fairy lights shells and candles will enhance the natural beauty and create a festive atmosphere.   7.1   The glass lanterns create a very beautiful atmosphere and can be rented at R15 each (without candles). These look great with sea sand at the bottom.  We have about 50 of 14cm high, 8 of 19cm high and 3 (for buffet table normally or in the fireplace when it is not cold enough for a fire) of 25cm high.   7.2   The white round lanterns shown outside on the dune and hanging over the tables can also be rented at R15 each.   7.3   We also have frosted lanterns for the outside, available at R15 each (these take ordinary long candles, which you must also provide.) 7.4  Fairy lights on the beams will cost  R300.  7.5   White iron arch - size: 5,8 m high by 60 cm wide will cost R200. This  can be decorated with shells, soft white cloth, flowers. Please note that no fireworks will be allowed at the venue. 8.  Bedouin Tent and Tent on the Beach Where in the past couples were requested to rent their own tent, we have now acquired our own tent and each wedding couple has to pay R4 000 for this. We also bought a beautiful white Bedouin tent/shelter of 8 by 10 m if you want to get married on the beach and the wind is blowing moderately.  Rental: R1000. Alternatively, you can get married on the wooden deck under the beige Bedouin tent. 9.  White Dance Floor This can be rented for R1 000. Size: 6x5m.    10.  Accommodation - Strandkombuis B&B Rustic Strandkombuis B&B (also bridal suite), situated right next to Strandkombuis (sleeping 56 people) - a dune separates the B & B from the sea.    Please contact us by email and we will supply the information regarding the accommodation.

		Information for Brides
		1. Table Placement We can assist you with a table plan. The following tables with table cloths are available: 1.1   Wedding cake - a round table. 1.2   Gifts table 1.3  Cocktails after the ceremony while photo's are taken:  We can prepare an attractive cocktail for R20 each. You can bring your own sliced biltong, nuts and crackers to put on the cocktail table. This table is put on the deck's end with the sea at the back. 1.4  Table for signing the register.  (We got legal advice on this matter - the law requires that signing the register must take place where people can move in and out freely -  thus Strandkombuis  is perfect for signing the register.)   2.  The DJ 2.1    There are two power points.  The DJ can decide where he     wants to set-up for the evening's music.  We will provide a table. 2.2   DJ must bring an extension lead to take the one speaker to the dune so that the song (when the bride walks in) can also be heard on the beach (if the ceremony takes place there). 2.3   He must provide a microphone for the minister to be heard above the waves 2.4  Peter, is a guy who we can recommend. Alternatively, you can bring your own DJ. 3. The Ceremony 3.1  If the wind blows, it will take place on the wooden deck.  We can provide  a double framed white metal  arch, which you can decorate with ivy, flowers, thin white cheese cloth, shells, or whatever you choose. Renting R200, 3.2  If the weather is perfect, you can take the arch down to the beach and have the ceremony there . 3.3  If the wind blows lightly  we have a perfectly white 10 by 8 meters Bedouin dome which you can rent at R1000. This will shield off the wind for 20 meters (it is an aero-dynamic structure), so the guests can sit there behind you.  You can decide on this on the morning of the wedding - watch the weather forecast first.  Langebaan Weather bureau 082 2311 641 - they give a 3-day forecast. 3.4  We have about 50 white chairs for the guests to be seated      during the ceremony - at R5 each. 4.  Dance Floor Can be rented from us at R1 000 per function. 5. Minister   We can recommend a minister, otherwise you can organise your own. Suggested Wedding Programme 16.00  Guests start arriving. The Bar will be open if guests want to order a drink. 16.30  Ceremony under arch and/or white Bedouin Tento on the beach or on the Deck. The Bride accompanied by music as she walks in. After the ceremony the music starts as background until after the main meal has been enjoyed, at which time the dancing will start.   17.15   Wedding couple leave for the photo session. Guests can be served with light snacks like biltong, nuts, vegetables with dips that you can organise yourself. We will provide bowls.  18.00  The Couple arrive on the deck and champagne is served.  Everyone is seated and one or two speeches are given.  19.00  Starters are served buffet style while the guests are relaxed and informal (chatting standing or sitting).  Another speech or two. 20.00  Main course is served Tables are cleared while the dance music starts 21.30  Cutting of the cake; coffee and tipsy tart served.
