Directions From Gauteng

You can travel by road to any of the wedding venues in Limpopo. The main roads are the N1 or the N4 from Johannesburg or Pretoria. You can also fly from OR Tambo Airport  to Hoedspruit or Phalaborwa either of which airports will bring you into the heart of the bushveld.

Best Time of Year to Get Married

The summer months of November through to March/April are the most popular months for weddings in Limpopo and are also the rainy season.  Temperatures are high and the evenings are warm. Everything is lovely and green so the bush looks its best. Spectacular thunderstorms are common in the afternoon and can add drama and atmosphere to wedding photographs!

Autumn is gorgeous with the bush changing colours to russet and the weather not as hot as in summer. Winter can be perfect with hot dry days, and cooler evenings, and, depending on the venue, can also be a very cosy time with roaring fires adding to the atmosphere.

The months of September and October can be really hot, but still with cool nights and the trees starting to sprout green. The bush is dry as this is before the rain starts, and is lovely if you want a spring wedding.

Finding the Perfect Venue

Your choice of venue will depend on how many guests you are inviting to your wedding. Is it just family or family and close friends so as to keep the numbers down? You would be able to book out an entire lodge for your wedding party, making your wedding and unforgettable few days of safari. Garonga  Safari Camp is perfect for a destination wedding. Their accommodation is very romantic, there are wonderful activities to keep all your guests busy, and their cuisine is tops! This is a great option if your guests are flying in and combining a safari with touring the rest of South Africa. For a larger wedding, consider one of the hotels bordering on the Kruger National Park, or the popular Moholoholo near Hoedspruit where your guests can stay at lodges nearby.

All lodges will have very special locations for your ceremony, whether it be overlooking a waterhole or under a special tree. The reception would normally be back at the lodge in a boma or some lodges will set up your reception in a dry riverbed or a place with a particularly beautiful view.

Make sure you love the menu. Ask the venue to send you examples of dinners so you can choose your favourite foods. Please inform them if you are vegetarian or have any other dietary requirements so they can accommodate you and your guests.

If your guests are not all staying in the same place make sure that there are a good range of accommodation options in the area.

The Lodge will be able to recommend some photographers for you to choose from. If the photographers know the lodge well you will probably get the wedding pictures you have always dreamt of as they will know exactly where the best places are.
